A Recursive Formula for the Kaplan-Meier Estimator with Mean Constraints and Its Application to Empirical Likelihood

چکیده
The Kaplan-Meier estimator is very popular in analysis of survival data. However, it is not easy to compute the ‘constrained’ Kaplan-Meier. Current computational method uses expectationmaximization algorithm to achieve this, but can be slow at many situations. In this note we give a recursive computational algorithm for the ‘constrained’ Kaplan-Meier estimator. The constraint is assumed given in linear estimating equations or mean functions. We also illustrate how this leads to the empirical likelihood ratio test with right censored data. Speed comparison to the EM based algorithm favours the current procedure.

Model-based likelihood ratio confidence intervals for survival functions
We introduce an adjusted likelihood ratio procedure for computing pointwise confidence intervals for survival functions from censored data. The test statistic, scaled by a ratio of two variance quantities, is shown to converge to a chi-squared distribution with one degree of freedom. The confidence intervals are seen to be a neighborhood of a semiparametric survival function estimator and are s...
متن کاملAsymptotic properties of mean survival estimate based on the Kaplan-Meier curve with an extrapolated tail.
Asymptotic distribution of the mean survival time based on the Kaplan-Meier curve with an extrapolated 'tail' is derived. A closed formula of the variance estimate is provided. Asymptotic properties of the estimator were studied in a simulation study, which showed that this estimator was unbiased with proper coverage probability and followed a normal distribution. An example is used to demonstr...
متن کاملEmpirical likelihood bivariate nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator with right censored data
This article considers the estimation for bivariate distribution function (d.f.) F0(t, z) of survival time T and covariate variable Z based on bivariate data where T is subject to right censoring. We derive the empirical likelihood-based bivariate nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator F̂n(t, z) for F0(t, z), which has an explicit expression and is unique in the sense of empirical likelihood...
متن کاملEstimating a Bounded Normal Mean Relative to Squared Error Loss Function
Let be a random sample from a normal distribution with unknown mean and known variance The usual estimator of the mean, i.e., sample mean is the maximum likelihood estimator which under squared error loss function is minimax and admissible estimator. In many practical situations, is known in advance to lie in an interval, say for some In this case, the maximum likelihood estimator...
متن کاملEmpirical Likelihood Approach and its Application on Survival Analysis
A number of nonparametric methods exist when studying the population and its parameters in the situation when the distribution is unknown. Some of them such as "resampling bootstrap method" are based on resampling from an initial sample. In this article empirical likelihood approach is introduced as a nonparametric method for more efficient use of auxiliary information to construct...
